New trends: Whole-display phones
Google Pixel 2 XL
Google Pixel 2 XL is a device that created so much drama around the display. You can find out more about it in our previous article. However, we are here to give you facts. This phone has a 6’’ POLED display with 18:9 aspect ratio and 538 PPI. Everything seems fine one the first look but POLED, a.k.a plastic OLED is what makes our heart skip a bit. And not in a right way! The word online is that this display has a burn-in if the screen remains on for an extended period. Even if this isn’t the truth, we don’t like POLED so much - there is just not right contrast or bright colors. Besides a whole mess with POLED screen, Google Pixel 2 is a fantastic phone. 3,520 mAh battery and Snapdragon 835 work great. The most prominent reason for buying this phone would be cameras - 12.2 MP with f/1.8 lenses on the back and 8MP with f/2.4 lenses. Currently, there is no better camera on the market. We can only say that there is no such thing as perfection, even in the world of smartphones.iPhone X
iPhone X is the phone that was launched as an homage to the 10th iPhone’s anniversary, and it wowed us all. iPhone 8 was released as well, but only this piece of beauty has a whole-display body. The design is very sleek, typical and iPhone-like, but the display is something else - Super AMOLED 5.8-inch screen with a screen-to-body ratio of 82,9%. The most significant change Apple made was replacing Touch ID with FaceID, a possibility to unlock the screen with your face, just by looking at the display. As always, Apple took an extra mile and took good care of the security making sure that FaceID works flawlessly. If we haven’t convinced you that this, out of all whole-display phones, is the one for you, think about iOS 11 that runs like a charm and pretty impressive cameras of the 12MP rear and 7MP on the front.LG G6
We are definitely rooting for this guy! Among all the significant names in the industries, LG found a way to be a part of the whole-display phones trend with LG G6. Although it has a screen-to-body ratio of 78,6% and is a bit smaller - 5.7-inch Quad HD+ IPS LCD display, we don’t mind. It has an aspect ratio of 18:9, just like the rest of the phones and gives that illusion of being in the cinema while laying on your couch. The thing we love the most about LG G6 is the fact that it has a protective layer on both sides - Gorilla Glass 5 on the back and Gorilla Glass 3 on the front. This doesn’t mean you can use it as a frisbee but is good to know that this boy can take a few punches. Did we mention it is water-resistant?LG Q6
Yay, another LG phone!LG Q6 comes with the same display as the LG G6, but with a smaller screen of 5.5 inches. Its screen-to-body ratio is 78% with 18:9 aspect ratio. LG Q6 runs on octa-core Snapdragon 836 and has 3GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage. If you are a fan of large displays go with LG Q6 - this one is not going to disappoint you.Samsung Galaxy S8 and Samsung Galaxy S8+
We are sure you expected Samsung on our list. Both of this phones have Super AMOLED Quad HD+ screen, but there are some differences: - Samsung Galaxy S8 has screen-to-body ratio of 83,6% while his bigger relative has 84%, - 5.8-inch display goes with S8 and 6.2’’ goes with Samsung Galaxy S8. - Both of them come with 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal memory, but Samsung Galaxy S8+ has an option for 6GB of RAM. - Just like in the case of Samsung Galaxy Note 8, both of these whole-display phones run on Exynos 8895 which provides high-response and fast performance.Samsung Galaxy Note 8
This is a powerful device, to say at least. After the massive fiasco with Samsung Galaxy Note 7 and its exploding battery, Samsung made sure to amaze us this time. First, let’s start with the display. Samsung Galaxy Note 8has Super AMOLED Quad HD+ 6.3 inch screen with a screen-to-body ratio of 83,2%. There are more words to describe display then there is in the name of the phone. :) The screen has a minimal bezel on top and bottom part of the phone, but the most important advantage is its InfinityEdge design, which makes the phone comfortable to hold. There are few more treats to this phone. Samsung Galaxy Note 8 runs on Exynos 8859 processor with not four, but eight cores. Oh, and did we mention 3,300 mAh battery? We must admit that hardware-wise, this is one of the whole-display phones that is unbeatable.Xiaomi Mi Mix 2
We are sure you haven’t heard much about Xiaomi Mi Mix 2, but you have to admit that Mi Mix is the cutest name for a smartphone you have ever heard. However, the name is only the beginning. The Mi Mix 2 comes with a 5.99-inch full HD+ IPS LCD display, a screen-to-body ratio of 80.8% and an aspect ratio of 18:9. If this doesn’t seem enough to you, just keep on reading. Hardware in this little guy is something you can find in the best phones in the market - Snapdragon 835 with eight cores, 6GB RAM and you can choose between 64GB, 128GB and 256GB of internal storage. There is even a limited edition of this smartphone that comes with 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage! That is insane! With such an outstanding performances, this is definitely one of the most attractive whole-display phones out there.Which one would you choose?
As we have mentioned in the beginning, all of the listed phones are high-end, and you are not just paying for whole-display phones, but for extraordinary design, fast performance and crazy equipment “under the hood.” So, it's not just about the new trend, it's about the quality, extraordinary performances, and excellent design, as well. If Santa Claus could bring you one of these whole-display phones, which would it be? We wouldn’t mind getting all of them :) Images from: mobileshop.euCategorias
