Samsung Galaxy S5 specs and release

Ladies and gentlemen, Samsung Galaxy S5 is here! This is a phone that is a so long awaited and now it's released. The new flagship from Samsung is presented at the World Mobile Congress in Barcelona. Its goal is clear. To beat the monstrously good success of its predecessor. Galaxy S5 looks familiar and brings an established feel of the South Korean manufacturer. Two generations of the popular phone look very similar, but the upgrades are here, and that's a sign that Samsung was quite busy preparing new champion.

This phone got a mini revolution. Compared with the Galaxy S4, new Samsung Galaxy S5 on the front side looks almost identical. Obviously, Samsung is satisfied by its own designs and the good things nobody wants to change. As expected the front of the phone is dominated by the large screen, which rose to a diagonal of 5.1 inch. It is still full HD display with Super AMOLED technology, which, basically, is no different than its predecessor. It has a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels, with 432 pixels per inch. Quite good job, for now.

Although some differences are not visible at first glance, if you scratch a little beneath the surface the things are different. The home button, located below the screen, hides a fingerprint scanner, as well as two standard Android capacitive buttons. The sensor is used to unlock the phone, or for authorization of payment (for now via PayPal but not through Google Play Store). The sensor is activated by sliding your finger over it, but the initial information from the Barcelona show that it's more complicated to work with than Apple's iPhone 5S.

Samsung has decided to retain distinctive sidelong plastic with a metallic sheen, but the difference is that the USB port is now in version 3.0 and it comes with special protection, which guarantees the waterproof. Samsung Galaxy S5 can spend up to 30 minutes in water at a depth of one meter, something like Sony's smart models.

If things on the front are already familiar, on the back there is a slightly different story. Thin and shiny plastic from Galaxy S4 is replaced with the soft finish for which, we assume gives a better feel in the hands. In this way, new leading Samsung gives some glamorous shininess, but also a practical side as the phone is less slippery. This means that Samsung has not given up the use of plastic (which is by far the biggest gripe), but emphasizes its quality and the appearance.

Samsung Galaxy S5 is offered in four colors - white, black, blue and gold, but at first glance it is clear that the white and black are most likely to attract the most customers.

Samsung Galaxy S5 software and features

Samsung Galaxy S5 in software terms is undoubtedly true Samsung. As expected this phone runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat. There are a number of special apps and features, but all in all, Samsung Galaxy S5 does not stand out much from the standard software scheme that Samsung uses, excluding changes in the settings menu.

However, not all changes are just cosmetics. S5 has S Health app in combination with a sensor for measuring the heart rate on the back of the phone. This application is able to connect with similar Galaxy devices in order to show you helpful tips for your good fitness and health. The top of the cake is monitor to display your heart rate, which is placed under the camera and works by scanning your fingerprint for only 5-10 seconds, which is incredible.

Samsung Galaxy S5 is faster than its predecessor. Its new heart is called Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 on 2.5 GHz. Of course, it is a quad-core processor. There is also 2GB of RAM, a generous battery (2.800mAh) with about 20 % more endurance (with a special mode for lower power consumption). Therefore, Samsung Galaxy S5 is as quick as you suggested, and one of the fastest phones ever.

The camera has improved to 16MP, but with 4K recording mode. It comes with HDR support in real time, which contributes to the high image quality in mixed lighting conditions. It is now possible to apply some camera effects after the picture was taken, so it's not so important that you select the right mode when you press shooting button. The camera interface has been simplified and works quite fast. Front-facing camera is 2MP.

Samsung Galaxy S5 first impression

It looks like Samsung kept the winning formula. A successful recipe applied to the model Galaxy S4 this manufacturer didn't change. At first glance, everything is perfected, and the phone has got the power and speed. In the visual term, Samsung has remained dedicated to itself. Sammy fixed some things (the screen became more visible). On the first glance we would say that the Samsung Galaxy S5 differs from its predecessor as much, if not more, as Samsung Galaxy S4 did when removed Galaxy S3 from the throne.

Samsung Galaxy S5 is scheduled to start in global sales in April. Samsung was in no mood to talk about price, but no matter, we have the impression that they are still making distinctive and stunning devices from the Galaxy series. Samsung Galaxy S5 is the most recent example of this.
