Huawei Honor 3X Review

Huawei Honor 3X might be quite big or not big enough, beautiful or less beautiful, affordable or not so cheap, but it's actually very unusual phone. First of all it's very big with its 5.5-inch display. Also, it packs octa-core processor and it has dual SIM support. All of these things bring a lot of potential joy and useful features many users need. This phone has 13MP and 5MP cameras and fairy price too. That's a right sign to see more what Huawei Honor 3X has to offer.

Huawei Honor 3X Design and Display

This is typical Huawei. It doesn't bring anything new in visual term. All of these elements in its design we already seen, so it’s nothing spectacular, but everything is in place and it seems nicely done. The phone has rectangular edges which remind us to iPhone design. Also it has a metal band around the edges, but this isn't the first Huawei reminiscent of an iPhone. The large display is a central spot of Honor 3X. The truly good IPS brings 1280x720 resolution and great viewing angles. Also, it deals very well with daylight and the visibility outdoors is pretty good. Since this isn’t high-end device not all the part are prearranged to be spectacular. The display is good, but not the plastic the phone's body is made of. The shiny plastic feels cheap, but also solid in hands. Also, it's truly magnet for fingerprints which knows to be annoying. The hard buttons are decent and at the right side you'll find power and volume buttons. They are easy to reach, so you can calm down and not worry if your fingers are long enough for this. Also, the phone is not overlarge so you'll be using it by one hand most of the time.

Don't be too excited about the octa-core processor. Generally this is good news, but in this case it's far from ideal. The phone is managing to provide decent work and in the most cases it works smoothness. Only more demanding games are spoiling the thrill when they need to be open. Most of the credit for good work goes to 2GB of RAM. Also, the internal 16GB of memory is quite generously. If this isn't your case, you can count on microSD port and memory expansion. MediaTek processor managed to beat most of the games, but it seems not as good as competitors with the Qualcomm logo. The phone has a speaker located on the back, and it's surprisingly clear and loud. The 3.000mAh battery is quite large (which is not surprising giving the fact the phone has a big screen), but it's nevertheless sufficient for even two days of average use.

The combination of 13MP and 5MP gives great photographer in the announcement. The camera comes with a lot of shooting options and settings, so the user can count on HDR, panorama and beauty modes. However, the 13MP camera hasn't used all the potential of a large number of pixels and gives mediocre results. Interestingly, the camera has a problem with landscape photos, but the macro mode pictures are pretty well. When it comes to night or indoors pictures, regardless of how the software is trying to remove impurities, photos still have too much noise which is a problem phones still can't solve. The colors are less vivid than those in real life. LED flash is quite decent and do its job very well. Front-facing camera, like many other today's smartphones has option for beautification, which is a kind of compulsion when taking selfies. Option, although it has good intentions, doesn't achieve the results that users might hope, so don't be surprised if the photos make you looking like an alien creature.

Huawei Honor 3X Verdict

Who this phablet is aiming to? There are several categories of users, but I think its affordable price is a first asset. I deliberately say first because Huawei Honor 3X has several of them.
