Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 Duos Review

Galaxy Grand Duos has achieved great success for Samsung. Now it's successor’s turn. Can Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 Duos repeat the success of its predecessor and maintain the trust? Competition has never been stronger! In fact, Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos 2 brings several changes from the original model, but also a higher price. In these situations there's always the question whether the successor brings better performance or just new (usually higher) price. This is especially important because there are a lot of competitors and nowadays middle class phones often offer features that were, until recently, reserved for the best phones on the market.

Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 Duos Design

The predecessor Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos had a good fortune to look like the Galaxy S3. In this style Samsung continued when designing this model. In the meantime, Galaxy S4 was released, so Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 Duos got its aesthetic lines. The phone has the same weight of 163 g, but is thinner at 8.9 mm. Plastic surface on the front is quite reduced and generous 5.2-inch screen comes to the exposure. Expectedly Grand Duos 2 is made of plastic. The build quality is very good, so it is no surprise that the phone looks solid. The back is covered with faux-leather texture, which became Samsungstrademark. South Korean manufacturer first applied this style on Note 3, but this practise will continue in the future. The edges are nicely chromed. Background can be easily removed revealing two SIM slots and a microSD slot. There is a battery of 2.600m. On the back there is a speaker that provides a sufficient level of volume for ringtone, although notification sound is at lower level. However, it is interesting that the phone has no notification light, which is simply unacceptable.

Phone basically works just fine. However, Grand 2 Duos is not immune to the occasional downtime, which is a bit strange because the device is equipped with 1.5 GB of RAM. The memory of 8GB can be easily expanded up to 64GB. The screen is noticeably better than the one on the previous model. TFT screen has a resolution of 720x1280 pixels. 280 pixels per inch on such a large screen can’t boosts some extra results, but the readability is acceptable. With this in mind, it is clear that the size of the screen is its greatest quality. The screen still displays natural colors, the text doesn’t suffer of pixelization and sensitivity is at good level. The phone runs on Android 4.3 OS with TouchWiz interface. We should point out multi windows as the practical side of this software. There are some proven Samsung’s options.

Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 Duos Camera

It seems that the Grand 2 Duos succeeded camera of its predecessor. It is a 8MP camera, which is generally ok, because Galaxy Grand Duos had a good camera. This camera shows its potential in macro mode when it is able to capture a lot of details. At the same time, outdoor photos are really good.

Grand Galaxy 2 Duos Conclusion

With all of this in mind and the fact that battery stands for two days of normal use, then Galaxy Grand 2 Duos is not a bad device. But, its price isn't really a bargain and the phone lacks some features that should be there for that money. Generally it is a good phone, but I think for that amount there are better options. However, if you want a dual SIM phone that looks like the Galaxy S4 and some above-average performance, Galaxy Grand 2 Duos is good choice. Photos:samsung.com
