Huawei Ascend P7 Review
Ascend P7 is the latest Huawei's offspring. It's the Ascend P6's successor, starting from whom everybody Chinese company is considered as equal to others. Its predecessor was the first attempt to rise from Huawei production of cheap and not too high-quality phone, but with Ascend P7 story gets a real outcome. Ascend P7 is a very attractive phone, ready to confront the most powerful smartphones at the moment. And the first impression is that all the cards are thrown in viaual appearance, and some other things come in place after the first.
Huawei Ascend P7 Design
Ascend P6 and some models of the P series are known for being among the thinnest in the world. Ascend P7 is no exception, but also validation of the idea that Huawei turns a brilliant design as the main asset in the production of new models. With only 6.5 mm thick, this phone is considerably thinner than many premium models, which already have a narrow waist. When the phone is so small thick, it's clear that it's easier to hold, despite the 5-inch screen. The Ascend P7 don't run out of hand so easily. It's especially important that you without any problems use the phone by one hand, and your fingers will be able to reach every corner of the screen.
Visually, the Ascend P7 reminiscent of the iPhone. It have a form of Apple's phone, with metal side edges. While aluminum overlaid hips, a glassy layer covers the back of the phone, which gives it an irresistible look, no matter from which angle you look this cool Huawei. In addition, to front side bezels are quite thin, which improve the good looking appearance.
Ascend P7 has curved edges and a slight texture on the back, which is why quite comfortable in your hands, and there is no doubt that this is the most beautiful Huawei ever made.
Huawei Ascend P7 Screen
The screen is the dominant element in the design. No doubt about it. On the front there is nothing (except the three standard capacitive buttons) that might obscure the glory of the screen like a true beauty. It's a full HD IPS LCD screen of 5 inches. The screen quality is very high. The colors are really great, and more importantly they act naturally, which is not always easy to adjust. With over 440 ppi everything is super sharp.
Everything is cool until you change the angle at which you are viewing the screen. Then the image quality falls down, so we can say that the viewing angles are mediocre, and the screen in the corners looses the standard brightness level. However, hand on heart, you will notice this only when you "look close". In normal use Ascend P7 has a fantastic screen, and these minor objections are only here to show that Huawei is still a little work to catch up with the leading manufacturers, but that time will come soon.
Huawei Ascend P7 Specs and Performance
This ultra slim phone runs on the latest 4.4.2 Android OS in combination with standard Emotion UI. This interface may be the most different from those other manufacturers are using, because instead of the home screens, all apps are at once, something like on iPhone. It's clear the impact of iOS. Otherwise, the UI's look is customizable. The interface has a few useful widgets that will not interfere with the regular work.
The phone works on a quad-core processor of 1.8 GHz, which is manufactured by Huawei, which is unusual because most manufacturers are opting for Qualcomm's units. However, the phone is not as agile as it would be expected. I don't want to say Ascend P7 can't be compared with the Galaxy S5 or One M8, but already that it's at the level of HTC One or Galaxy S4. This means that Huawei delays about a year for the major competitors. This is especially true when you play games on Ascend P7 because you will hardly be able to enjoy them like at these aforementioned competitors.
Rarely where you will find one slim phone with a generous battery. In this design something has to be sacrificed. Ascend P7 uses a battery of 2,500 mAh, which is slightly lower than similar models. With playing games, surfing the net and similar activities, with P7 you can withstand a little over 8 hours, which is still considerably less than the more powerful (and more expensive) premium models. However, if you use the phone not so often and heavy (especially in stand by mode), then the battery may take quite a while. In fact, with an average energy consumption, Ascend P7 can push all day, possibly up to the next morning.
Huawei Ascend P7 Camera
With 13MP and LED flash the Ascend P7's camera is quite usual for this class. At the top of the front side stands front-facing 8MP camera. That's why many of the phone declared Ascend P7 as selfie phone. It definitely makes better pictures than other phones that have front cameras with just 2-3 MP. However, it would be unfair to say that the main camera is not good. On the contrary. In sunny conditions, the photos are very good, with plenty of details, underpinned by colors and high sharpness.
Even in situations with poor lighting situation isn't dramatically worse. Photos are not overloaded forest, and there's no gray so typical for night photography. The camera has a few, but well-selected recording modes. The camera's speed is quite good, and with easy-to-use menu.
Huawei Ascend P7 Verdict
This is a major breakthrough for Huawei. Design is something that this phone stands out more expensive competitors. You should be aware that the Ascend P7 can't be compared with the best model from Samsung, HTC and Sony. Ascend P7 works a bit slower, the screen is slightly poorer and battery dries faster. I would like to say that the Ascend P7 is more comparable to the Nexus 5, LG G2, Galaxy S4 and HTC One. That's his right company.
