CAT Smartphones - Superheroes in the Smartphone World

Have you ever dropped your smartphone on the ground and prayed that the display stays alive and that the device can still work? We're sure that something like this has happened to you at least once, so we have decided to find the smartphone that can survive anything. And we make it. We wish to introduce you to CAT smartphones! With CAT smartphones, you no longer need to worry about drops and falls. These devices are drop proof, waterproof and dust resistant. They can survive a 2m fall without any hardware damage. And some of them can even stop a bullet. CAT smartphones are nothing like other smartphones. We could even say that these phones don't have any competition because there is no smartphone that is as tough as a CAT smartphone.

How it all started?

In early 2013 the company famous for constructing bulldozers, trucks and construction equipment, decided to step into the smartphone market and to compete with companies such as LG, Samsung and Apple. Caterpillar people figured: "All of the other companies are making these lightweight and fragile smartphones, and construction workers can't use them. So why wouldn't we make a smartphone that our customers can really use?" And they did - in 2013, CAT released model B15. This was the first and only smartphone that has targeted demands of the construction industry. As the first CAT smartphone, B15 was the least impressive model from the CAT smartphones family. It just wasn't built for regular usage of an ordinary person. An interesting fact is that B15 had a high-quality audio and double noise cancelling microphone, so you could have a clear conversation even in a loud environment.

New CAT smartphones

A year later, in 2014, CAT released new model B15Q. It was the same as B15 but with some significant hardware upgrades. Believed it or not, B15 didn’t have an LED on the back of the phone. This flaw was fixed with B15Q. Also, in the latter model the power of the processor and RAM was doubled. B15Q got a new screen of 4” with relatively good 221 PPI. Along with B15Q CAT has released a bit slimmer model named is S50. Unfortunately, there was one problem with S50. It wasn’t as tough as its stronger cousin B15Q. Aldo S50 has the same water resistance and dust proof ratio as B15Q has, the drop resistance on this model was reduced from 1.8m to 1.2m. It turned out that it is much harder to protect a bigger and slimmer device with outstanding characteristics. CAT bumped the size of the screen to 4.7 inches and this act has increased the fragility of the device.

What's the latest from CAT smartphones?

CAT S40 is the most recent smartphone from Caterpillar phone family. It comes with IP68 certification, which means that it is fully waterproof when submerged underwater up to 1m for up to 60 minutes, and it is also completely dustproof. CAT S40 can survive any drop from as high as 1.8 meters. Such features promise an excellent device for all types of users. Regrettably, the downside of this device is specs. It has a 4.7-inch display protected with Corning’s Gorilla Glass 4. Super bright display allows us to read from the phone while it’s directly pointed at sunlight. You can operate it with wet fingers and gloves, but it only runs with 540 x 960 pixels resolution. It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 chipset with 1.1 GHz quad-core processor, also known as the worst performing chip currently made by Qualcomm. And such configuration isn't for a recommendation. S40 runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with a high battery that can have up to 18.3 hours talk time. This device is supposed to perform the basic operation, but we shouldn’t expect anything more out of it. It was launched this year, on 1st August in 60 countries around the globe. It didn't achieve significant success mainly because it is quite expensive for what it had to offer. New series of CAT smartphones are B100 devices. They are much stronger and durable comparing to the other CAT smartphones. This is a rugged phone that will keep working no matter what - drops can't hurt them, neither can water, or dust. Unlike other CAT models, B100 uses new technology, and it could find a way to more demanding users.

Should I switch to Cat smartphones?

Yes, but only of you suffer from severe "drop of a phone" syndrome. With CAT smartphones, you will be more secured and protected against cracked displays and broken phone backs. But (yes, there is always a "but"), this device probably won't satisfy your needs regarding performances. We all want crystal clear displays, quality cameras, powerful processors and at least a bit of a fancy looking phones. CAT smartphones are not one of these. They are build to last and to help you do some basic operations on your phone - to make a call, send text, have the internet connection. Everything else is less important on the construction site. Because CAT smartphones are made for construction workers, aren't they? And they are serving them entirely!
